State Dept Clears $3B Poseidon Aircraft, Equipment Sale to U.K.


Boeing P-8A PoseidonThe State Department has cleared a potential $3.2 billion foreign military sales agreement for the U.K. to procure Boeing-built (NYSE: BA) P-8A maritime surveillance planes and related equipment and support services from the U.S.

The U.K. ordered nine Poseidons in an effort to supplement patrol and reconnaissance missions of the British military and its NATO coalition partners, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Friday.

The deal also calls for the deployment of as many as 64 contractor personnel to the U.K.

According to DSCA,  the following 14 companies will support prime contractor Boeing on the sale:

  • Exelis
  • GC Micro
  • General Electric
  • Martin Baker
  • Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC)
  • Pole Zero
  • Raytheon (NYSE: RTN)
  • Rockwell Collins (NYSE: COL)
  • Spirit
  • Symmetrics
  • Terma
  • Telephonics
  • ViaSat
