TYSONS CORNER, VA, February 2, 2016 — Science Applications International Corp. (NYSE: SAIC) will equip 10 prototype amphibious assault vehicles with armor protection, new transmissions, blast-mitigating seats and upgraded suspension systems under a $194 million contract, ExecutiveBiz reported Monday.
The Post and Courier reported Friday the U.S. Marine Corps will test the prototypes for eight months then decide in 2017 if the upgrades will be fitted to 392 other AAVs.
According to the report, SAIC CEO Tony Moraco said the company collaborated with the Marines to develop the requirements for the program.
“[It is] fundamental that we can get new capabilities to the field as fast as we can but always have an upgrade path as part of that, ” he said.
