Battelle-Led Team to Conduct Deep Borehole Drilling Research Project for DOE


battelleTYSONS CORNER, VA, January 7, 2016 — Battelle and its partners Schlumberger, Solexperts and the University of North Dakota’s Energy and Environmental Research Center have been chosen by the Energy Department to drill a borehole in North Dakota to test its feasibility for disposal of high-level radioactive waste and development of geothermal energy, ExecutiveBiz reported Wednesday.

DOE said Tuesday the Battelle-led consortium will drill the hole through a crystalline rock formation and check the formation’s properties as well as any subsurface characterization problems.
