US Army Orders 12 Additional Airbus Lakota Helicopters


UH-72A Lakota helicopterA North America-based subsidiary of Airbus has been awarded a $65.8 million contract to produce 12 additional UH-72A Lakota helicopters for the U.S. Army.

Airbus Group Inc. will configure the helicopters as initial entry rotary-wing trainers and begin to deliver the products to the Army in August 2017 under the new contract option, the company said Thursday.

The Army is deploying Lakotas to Fort Rucker, Alabama in order incorporate the UH-72A helicopter into the service branch’s training curriculum by 2016.

The Army selected the UH-72A in 2006 for training, search and rescue, medical evacuation, border security, and command and control missions.
