TYSONS CORNER, VA, October 5,  2015 — Raytheon (NYSE: RTN) has finished the installation of a weather service data system it has developed for the U.S. National Weather Service at 140 sites across the country, ExecutiveBiz reported Friday.

Raytheon said Thursday the Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System II seeks to build the service’s forecasting capabilities using visualization and analysis technologies such as the space-based VIIRS imaging tool.

“The development and rollout of AWIPS II builds on Raytheon’s 10-year partnership with the NWS to maintain and operate the weather predicting capabilities that are so critical to commerce, safety and quality of life across the country, ” said Dave Wajsgras, president of Raytheon Intelligence, Information and Services.

“The modernized AWIPS II processes significantly more data from even more sources than the previous system.”
