The variant will feature an update of the current ASRAAM’s subsystems in efforts to drive down costs and support future modifications, the British defense ministry said Wednesday.
Simon Bollom, chief of materiel for the U.K. defense ministry’s defense equipment and support organization, noted that the contract works to maintain the country’s short-range air-to-air capability and missile-aircraft compatibility.
The U.K. currently launches ASRAAM missiles from its Typhoon and Tornado GR4 aircraft.
