Army Launches 2nd Missile-Detecting Airship at Aberdeen


RaytheonJLENSTYSONS CORNER, VA August 24, 2015 — The U.S. Army has deployed the second of two 250-foot aerostats meant to detect potential missile threats as part of the Joint Land Attack Cruise Missile Defense Elevated Netted Sensor System, ExecutiveBiz reported Friday.

The Raytheon-built (NYSE: RTN) tethered airships, floating 10, 000 feet from the ground at Aberdeen Proving Ground, were  launched as part of a three-year  program to evaluate JLENS integration capabilities, C4ISR & Networks said.
