Steven Demetriou, formerly chairman and CEO of aluminum manufacturing company Aleris, will join Jacobs Engineering Group (NYSE: JEC) on August 17 as president and CEO.

Jacobs said Monday that Demetriou will bring more than 30 years of business management experience to his dual role and be responsible for helping strengthen the company’s market position.

“My immediate objective is to listen and engage with Jacobs’ employees, customers and shareholders, as well as develop and implement strategies to realize Jacobs’ enormous potential to achieve focused growth into the future, ” Demetriou said.

He previously worked at ExxonMobil and served in operations, financial, commercial and general management positions during his 16-year tenure there.

Demetriou is a member of Kraton Performance Polymers‘ board and has held positions at companies that specialize in metal, specialty chemicals, fertilizer and energy production.

Jacobs also announced that Chairman Noel Watson will return to his role as non-executive chairman once Demetriou has assumed the president and CEO roles.
