NASA Taps 13 Companies for Aerospace Research at Glenn Center


research-and-development-RDNASA has selected 13 companies to support aerospace research and provide propulsion and communications systems to the Glenn Research Center in Ohio under five-year contracts with a maximum value of $190 million.

The space agency said Wednesday awardees will work to develop, verify and demonstrate communications, propulsion, structures and materials technology for space and aeronautics vehicles.

Each indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract includes competitive task orders for research areas such as alternative fuels, low-noise propulsion, engine icing, electric propulsion, flight and ground communication terminals, and disruptive tolerant networking, NASA added.

The chosen contractors are as follows:

  • Aerojet Rocketdyne (NYSE: AJRD)
  • Boeing (NYSE: BA)
  • General Dynamics’ (NYSE: GD) C4 systems business
  • General Electric’s (NYSE: GE) aviation business
  • John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory
  • MTI Systems
  • Northrop Grumman’s (NYSE: NOC) systems business
  • Orbital ATK (NYSE: OA)
  • Orbital Technologies Corp.
  • Rolls-Royce’s North American technologies business
  • Sierra Lobo
  • United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX)
  • Williams International
