Dell-General Dynamics-Microsoft Team to Help USAF Adopt Cloud Collaboration Tech

cloud_security_EMA team comprising Dell, Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) and General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) will help to construct a cloud-based online productivity and collaboration platform for the U.S. Air Force.

The Air Force’s Collaboration Pathfinder system will be built to employ a U.S. Defense Department-dedicated version of Microsoft’s Office 365 cloud technology, the military branch said July 9.

Dell will act as the primary contractor for the Collaboration Pathfinder program with Microsoft and General Dynamics lined up as subcontractors, a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed to GovCon Wire.

General Dynamics will help carry out implementation and records management work, the spokesperson said.

The Defense Information Technology Contracting Organization awarded the contract and work started June 22.

Microsoft said Wednesday it aims to help more than 100, 000 Air Force active, civilian and reserve personnel manage their emails, calendars, web applications and instant messaging functions through the platform.

The military service expects to address cloud migration cost and security issues through the Collaboration Pathfinder initiative.
