Report: BAE, General Dynamics Awarded Army Combat Vehicle Design Contracts

ArmyGroundVehicleBAE Systems and General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) have been awarded contracts worth a combined $56 million to develop conceptual designs of an armored ground vehicle for the U.S. Army, Defense News reported Tuesday.

Joe Gould writes the companies will also perform trade studies, requirements analysis, modeling, simulation and capability assessments through the Army’s Future Fighting Vehicle development initiative.

The military service plans to use the resulting data to determine whether it will upgrade existing Bradley ground combat vehicles or build a replacement platform, according to the report.

BAE and General Dynamics are scheduled to complete work by Nov. 28, 2016.

Gould said the FFV program office is also monitoring efforts by the Tank Automotive Research Development and Engineering Center to build a new tactical engine, modular active protection technology and hull structure.
