TYSONS CORNER, VA May 6, 2015 — Executive Mosaic — Exelis (NYSE: XLS) will embark on a research project with the Federal Aviation Administration that will study the safe integration of unmanned aircraft systems into the national airspace, ExecutiveBiz reported Tuesday.

Exelis said the experiments will be carried out at four participating FAA test sites in Alaska, North Dakota, New York and Virginia using the Symphony RangeVue situational awareness tool.

“The partnerships with these test sites are win-win arrangements, ” said Edward Sayadian, vice president of civil and aerospace systems at Exelis.

“The test sites receive air traffic control-quality surveillance data, increasing safety and enabling beyond-line-of-site operations, while Exelis gains critical product feedback which will be used to shape and validate our service offerings.”
