Stephen Metz, a 31-year U.S. Navy veteran, has been named vice president and executive director of Navy programs at American Systems.
He succeeds the retiring Steve Bonwich and will oversee the company’s business units that provide support work across the Department of the Navy in his new position, American Systems said Tuesday.
“Adding a Navy and industry vet with Steve Metz’s experience and reputation to our team ensures that our partnership with this important customer will continue to thrive, ” said American Systems President and CEOÂ Peter Smith, a Wash100 inductee for 2015.
Metz previously held senior leadership roles at QED Systems, Definitive Logic, CDI-Marine and BAE Systems.
Before he joined the private sector, Metz was a DDG project officer and oversaw the reconstruction of the Navy’s USS Cole guided-missile destroyer after the 2000 bombing of the ship.
He holds a professional mechanical engineer license and is a member of the American Society of Naval Engineers and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
