State Dept Clears Australia’s Requests for $1.8B in F-16, Hobart Destroyer Services

F16FleetThe State Department has approved $1.775 billion in foreign military sales requests from Australia for equipment and services in sustainment and logistics to support that country’s Super Hornet and Growler jets and Hobart-class destroyers.

Australia asked the U.S. for $1.5 billion in parts and services on 24 F/A-18 Super Hornet and 12 EA-18G Growler planes under one agreement, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Tuesday.

DCSA said Australia intends to maintain aircraft availability and operational rates for its Super Hornet-Growler fleet through that agreement.

A separate deal worth $275 million covers equipment and services on three Hobart class destroyers as Australia seeks to maintain its naval presence against potential threats in the region, DSCA said in a separate notice.

Boeing (NYSE: BA) will act as the prime contractor for the Super Hornet and Growler FMS agreement and Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) will hold the same role for the Hobart Class destroyer sustainment project.

The Super Hornet-Growler sale covers engineering change proposals, system configuration upgrades, system integration and testing, new engine components, test equipment, training services and logistics support.

DCSA says the Hobart services deal includes AEGIS computer software and hardware updates, system integration and testing, tools and test equipment, spare parts, training resources and aircrew trainer devices upgrades.
