Dell Threat Report Suggests Training, Policy Rethink

security-lock-chipTYSONS CORNER, VA April 15, 2015 — Executive Mosaic — ExecutiveBiz reported Tuesday on Dell’s annual threat report highlighting an increased incidence in point of sale malware and payment car system attacks.

According to Patrick Sweeney, executive director at Dell Security, the results of the study suggest that enterprises are aware of the threat but may not be using the right tools to deflect it.

“Malware targeting point-of-sale systems is evolving drastically, and new trends like memory scraping and the use of encryption to avoid detection from firewalls are on the rise, ” he said Monday.

“To guard against the rising tide of breaches, retailers should implement more stringent training and firewall policies, as well as re-examine their data policies with partners and suppliers.”
