Army Awards $4B Rifleman Radio Production IDIQ to Harris, Thales

ManpackRadioHarris Corp. (NYSE: HRS) and Thales‘ defense and security business have been awarded positions on a potential 10-year, $3.8 billion contract to produce radio systems for U.S. infantry use.

Three proposals were submitted to the U.S. Army‘s Contracting Command for the firm-fixed-price, cost-reimbursable contract via the Internet, the Defense Department said Wednesday.

The Army will determine performance location and funds with each individual task order and DoD expects contract work under the base period to finish by April 28, 2020.

Rifleman radios are intended to be rugged, lightweight and handheld for troops to transmit voice and data communications through the Soldier Radio Waveform application and the Warfighter Information Network-Tactical.

The platform also aims to help an operator to send messages, access applications and track another user’s location by connecting with Android phones designed to run on the Net Warrior system.
