The Arleigh Burke-class missile destroyer DDG 121 is the third of five DDG 51 destroyers the company has been tasked to build under a contract awarded in June 2013, Huntington Ingalls said Monday.
“We now have a hot production line in the shipyard where we can maintain our highly skilled shipbuilding crews in the same working areas for each ship, â said George Nungesser, DDG 51 program manager at Huntington Ingalls.
Ingalls Shipbuilding, a Huntington Ingalls division, will work to complete the five-ship contract under the DDG 51 program over the next 10 years.
The division has delivered 28 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers to the Navy.
