Former GSA CIO Sonny Hashmi Named Federal Area Strategy Lead at Box

Sonny Hashmi, formerly chief information officer at the General Services Administration, has joined Box (NYSE: BOX) to lead the cloud management company’s strategic programs in the federal market.

Hashmi aims to help the company establish a federal market growth strategy as it pursues Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program certification for a cloud-based content collaboration technology, Box said Thursday.

At GSA, he worked to manage the agency’s $600 million annual information technology budget and oversaw the implementation of an email and collaboration platform in a cloud environment.

He also held the roles of deputy CIO and chief technology officer at the agency.

Hashmi served as a deputy CIO within the District of Columbia’s Office of Chief Financial Officer before he joined GSA in January 2011.

He also worked at multiple technology firms that provide support for federal, state and local government organizations.
