boeing logoTYSONS CORNER, VA March 27, 2015 — Executive Mosaic — ExecutiveBiz reported Thursday on the midweek launch of Boeing’s (NYSE: BA) ninth GPS IIF satellite into space aboard a Delta IV rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida.

Orbital ATK (NYSE: OA) said it provided the solar arrays, GEM-60 solid rocket motors, large composite structures and main engine nozzle.

According to Dan Hart, vice president of Boeing government space systems, the launch moves forward the GPS IIF mission of updating the GPS satellite constellation’s signal strength and anti-jamming performance.

The GPS IIF-9 is the first of three of its kind that Boeing, the United Launch Alliance and the U.S. Air Force have scheduled for launch in 2015.

As the IIFs enter into service, “we are also introducing the L-5 civilian ‘safety-of-life’ signal intended mainly for aviation and transportation, ” Hart said Wednesday.
