Boeing (NYSE: BA) will merge its defense and space business development operations into a single organization with the goal of addressing program risks and cost issues.

Chris Chadwick, CEO of Boeing’s defense, space and security business, said Wednesday the future BDS development group will “apply engineering expertise, development program best practices, and program management and integration from across Boeing to our most important development activities.”

Jim O’Neill, current president of the global services and support division, will lead the BDS development organization.

He will oversee the KC-46 tanker, CST-100 crew capsule, Space Launch System, 502 small satellite, 777X commercial plane and presidential aircraft development programs.

BDS Chief Financial Officer Leanne Caret will succeed O’Neill as GS&S president and Jim Zrust, corporate vice president for tax, will be the next BDS CFO.
