Thomas Jones, formerly vice president of undersea systems at Northrop Grumman Corp. (NYSE: NOC), has been appointed as VP and general manager of advanced concepts and technologies within the company’s electronic systems sector.

He will report to Gloria Flach, corporate VP and president of Northrop’s electronic systems, and be responsible for the AC&T’s strategic planning, activities and operations, Northrop Grumman said Thursday.

Jones will also lead the firm’s efforts to forge customer research and development, partner with laboratories and universities, manage intellectual property, develop foundries and cultivate advanced concepts.

He most recently oversaw Northrop Grumman’s initiative to realign the undersea systems business unit since joining the company in 2011.

Jones also previously served on the corporate program management council and the executive committee of Northrop’s unmanned systems steering group.

He is a member of the National Defense Industrial Association’s undersea warfare executive board.
