Phil McAlister: NASA Taps 4 Firms for New Commercial Space Tech Program


Space Launch SystemNASA has selected four companies to work with the agency to develop and commercialize space technologies over the next five years.

ATK‘s (NYSE: ATK) space systems business, Final Frontier Design, Space Exploration Technologies and United Launch Alliance signed NASA Space Act Agreements for the agency’s Collaborations for Commercial Space Capabilities program, NASA said Tuesday.

The agency will offer the companies access to its technical and data sources through unfunded partnership projects.

“We look forward to working with these partners to advance space capabilities and make them available to NASA and other customers in the coming years, ” said Phil McAlister, director of commercial spaceflight development at NASA.

ATK Space Systems will work to build hosted payloads and space logistics platforms, while Final Frontier Design will create intra-vehicle space suits.

ULA will produce launch vehicles and SpaceX will develop systems intended to support deep-space missions.
