Kellye Walker, Chuck Monroe to Take HII Legal Dept Leadership Roles; Mike Petters Comments

Huntington Ingalls HIIHuntington Ingalls Industries‘ (NYSE: HII) board of directors has appointed Kellye Walker as corporate vice president and general counsel and Charles Monroe Jr. as corporate VP, secretary and associate general counsel.

The appointments take effect Jan. 12, 2015 and Monroe will report to both the board of directors and Walker, who in turn will report to HII President and CEO Mike Petters, the shipbuilder said Wednesday.

Walker will oversee the activities of outside counsel and HII’s law department and succeed current General Counsel Bruce Hawthorne, who will serve as corporate vice president and chief legal officer until his retirement next year.

Hawthorne joined HII in March 2011 when it spun off from Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC).

“Bruce’s previous experience and expertise with publicly traded companies was absolutely critical as we stood up HII as a new company, and his guidance and expertise have been instrumental in shaping who we are today, ” Petters said.

Walker held leadership positions at American Water Works,  Diageo North America and BJ’s Wholesale Club prior to HII and is a member of the American Bar Association.

Monroe, who will provide the board with legal advice and oversee corporate governance, has worked in HII’s law department since 2011.

He previously worked at K&L Gates and Hunton & Williams.
