Jerome Hauer Joins Chertoff Group as Security Services Principal; Michael Chertoff Comments


Chertoff Group logo Executive MosaicJerome Hauer, formerly commissioner of New York’s homeland security and emergency services division, has joined Chertoff Group as principal within the firm’s security services practice.

He will be part of Chertoff’s team that works to assist customers in establishing risk reduction and management strategies and executing business continuity plans, Chertoff said Tuesday.

Michael Chertoff, executive chairman of Chertoff, said Hauer brings his background in “assessing risk, identifying control measures, building preparedness and emergency operations programs” to the company.

Hauer most recently led the offices of emergency management, fire prevention and control, counterterrorism and emergency communications within the state of New York’s homeland security and emergency services division.

He served as public health emergency preparedness acting assistant secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services in 2002 after he held the role of public health preparedness director and senior adviser to the secretary for national security and emergency management.

He became the first director of the office of emergency management for the City of New York in 1996.

Hauer previously served as executive director of the State of Indiana’s emergency management agency and as deputy director for emergency management for the City of New York’s emergency medical services.
