The company will upgrade the targeting pods to the LITENING G4 configuration as well as provide spares for the active Air Force, Reserve, National Guard and Marines, Northrop said Tuesday.
Jim Mocarski, vice president of Northrop’s airborne tactical sensors business unit, said the company aims to help military customers enhance the aircraft weapon’s range, target identification and resolution features.
LITENING targeting pods are built to identify targets and aid precision-guided munitions and designed with technologies such as charge-coupled device and forward-looking sensors, laser imaging and high-definition video systems.
To date, Northrop has delivered more than 700 LITENING targeting systems to U.S. and international defense customers.
