Report: Boeing, Lockheed Seen as Frontrunners for Canadian Fighter Contract

F-35The government of Canada might choose between Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) to supply the nation with fighter jets, Reuters reported Thursday.

Reuters reports that Boeing’s F-18 Super Hornet and Lockheed’s F-35 have been deemed as suitable platforms to meet the requirements set forth by the Canadian military.

Canadian officials are considering whether to hold an industry competition or proceed with its initial plan to order F-35s, according to the publication.

A government spokesperson told Reuters that ministers are reviewing documents about aircraft features as well as the program’s potential costs and industrial benefits.

Analysts predict the Canadian government will hand down a decision on the fighter modernization after the country’s federal election in October 2015.
