Kevin Connell: UK Military Orders 589 General Dynamics SCOUT Vehicle Platforms

general dynamics logoGeneral Dynamics UK has been awarded a $5.8 billion contract to build SCOUT specialist vehicle platforms for the British Army.

The company will deliver 589 SCOUT SV platforms to the U.K. from 2017 to 2024, as well as perform support and training services for British troops,  General Dynamics said Wednesday.

General Dynamics will employ up to 1, 300 workers for the contract.

“General Dynamics UK and our partners have worked hard over the last four years to develop a world-leading vehicle, and we will maintain that same work ethic to deliver 589 SCOUT SV platforms to the British army on-time and on-budget, ” said Kevin Connell, vice president of General Dynamics UK land systems.

“SCOUT SV provides essential capability to the British Army to allow it to dominate the battle space for years to come and it secures thousands of jobs right across the UK for at least the next decade, ” he added.

The company develops the SCOUT SV platform at its AFV design and engineering centre in Oakdale, South Wales.
