Saab to Update USSOCOM’s Carl-Gustaf Weapon System; Gorgen Johansson Comments

SaabSaab has won a potential five-year, $187 million contract with the U.S. Special Operations Command to supply new Carl-Gustaf weapon systems to the command.

USSOCOM has placed a $14.3 million initial order for the portable weapon, Saab said Wednesday.

The contract follows a previous deal between Saab and USSOCOM for the 84-milimeter rifle system.

“This new order demonstrates the continued belief by the customer in the capabilities and versatility of our product as well as its future potential, ” said Gorgen Johansson, a senior vice president and head of Saab’s Dynamics business.

The company says it is also working on new developments for the Carl-Gustaf system.
