Navy Selects Lockheed Exoskeletons for Testing, Evaluations; Adam Miller Comments

lockheed martinLockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT)-built industrial exoskeletons have been chosen through the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences for a U.S. Navy evaluation under a contract of an undisclosed amount.

FORTIS exoskeletons work to transfer the weight of loads from the operator’s body to the ground in order to boost the user’s strength and endurance, Lockheed Martin said Monday.

“By wearing the FORTIS exoskeleton, operators can hold the weight of those heavy tools for extended periods of time with reduced fatigue, ” said Adam Miller, director of new initiatives at Lockheed’s missiles and fire control business.

The project aims to move exoskeleton technology into industrial use within the Defense Department and test the system for industrial applications at Navy shipyards.

Lockheed developed the exoskeleton through the NCMS Commercial Technologies for Maintenance Activities program.
