Boeing to Build 44 Super Hornets, Growlers


Boeing Logo w-borderBoeing (NYSE: BA) will build 44 Super Hornet and Growler aircraft over the next two years under a new contract awarded by the F/A-18 and EA-18G Program Office.

The U.S. Navy will receive the aircraft by the end of 2016 and Australia’s air force will also acquire 12 Growler jets that the country asked for in July 2013, the Navy said Monday.

The F/A-18 Super Hornet and its EA-18G Growler is built to work during all missions, including fighter escort, reconnaissance, aerial refueling, close-air support and precision strikes day or night.

“The Navy’s long-range strike fighter procurement strategy is to have a mix of F/A-18E/F Super Hornets and F-35 Lightning IIs by the early-2020s, ” said Capt. Frank Morley, PMA-265 program manager.

“We will operate F/A-18 E/F and F-35 aircraft together from our aircraft carriers through the 2030s.”

Countries such as Canada, Spain, Finland, Kuwait, Malaysia, Switzerland have requested the aircraft.
