Reuters: Canada Close to Lockheed F-35 Purchase Decision

F-35Canadian officials will soon decide on whether to go ahead with its $8.22 billion order of F-35 fighter jets to replace its aging fleet of CF-18s, Reuters reported Thursday.

Andrea Shalal writes authorities revisited the initial decision to purchase 65 of the jets from Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) following calls from different quarters for an independent review of the sole-sourcing process.

According to the report, the 18-month study has concluded with a recommendation to proceed with the deal.

Public Works Minister Diane Finley has declined to make the results public and told Reuters Reuters that a decision will be announced as it comes.

Shalal reports the review considered other similar F-35 purchases by allied nations, the business opportunities that could open up for local firms and the growing tensions in the Crimea region.
