Sikorsky to Engineer, Develop Presidential Helicopter for $1B


Marine OneSikorsky has signed a $1.2 billion engineering and manufacturing development contract with the U.S. Navy to build the next fleet of presidential helicopters, Defense News reported Wednesday.

Aaron Mehta writes that the Navy has awarded $42 million in fiscal year 2014 funds to Sikorsky for an immediate start to the program and the company expects to deliver six test aircraft and two simulators to the Navy by October 2020.

The current Marine One fleet comprises of Sikorsky-made VH-3D and VH-60N rotorcraft.

Mehta reports the new design is a modified S-92 helicopter, 21 of which the company expects to deliver to the Navy by 2023.
