Chris Celtruda: Merex Group Looks to Expand Aircraft Services, Client Reach with Kellstrom Buy


acquisitionThe Merex Group has made a move to expand its legacy aircraft services and make them available to a wider customer base with its acquisition of Kellstrom Defense Aerospace for an undisclosed sum.

The two companies expect their combined businesses will generate more than $150 million in total sales for calendar year 2014, Merex said Wednesday.

Merex will gain access to Kellstrom Defense’s maintenance repair and overhaul, logistics, distribution and life extension support capabilities, and its customers from more than 30 countries, according to the announcement.

“We expect to rapidly integrate the Kellstrom Defense business and focus on connecting our combined sustainment solutions to the needs of the global operators of these important platforms, ” Merex Group CEO Chris Celtruda said.

Kellstrom Defense is based in Miramar, Fla. and services the C130, P3, F-16, F-18 and 707 defense derivative aircraft from Florida, a logistics center in Georgia and forward stocking locations in the U.K. and Australia.

Merex provides in-house product engineering, specialty manufacturing, FAA and military repair and overhaul and logistics, for aircraft including the F-5, T-38, F-16, C-130, P-3 and numerous rotary wing platforms.

It also distributes and supplies spare parts.
