Satya Nadella Unveiled as Microsoft CEO, John Thompson to Chair Board of Directors

MicrosoftSatya Nadella,  executive vice president of Microsoft’s (NASDAQ: MSFT) cloud and enterprise group, has been appointed to succeed the retiring Steve Ballmer as CEO of the software maker.

Nadella joined the company in 1992 and led its transition to a cloud computing environment along with other strategy and technical shifts, Microsoft said Tuesday.

“The opportunity ahead for Microsoft is vast, but to seize it, we must focus clearly, move faster and continue to transform. A big part of my job is to accelerate our ability to bring innovative products to our customers more quickly, ” Nadella said.

John Thompson, lead independent director for Microsoft’s board of directors, will succeed founder Bill Gates as board chairman as Gates moves into a new role of technology adviser to Nadella.

Microsoft’s board comprises of 10 members, seven of which are independent.
