Laura Schumacher, an executive vice president and a general counsel at pharmaceutical company AbbVie, has been elected to the board of directors of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).
Her appointment took effect Sunday and she currently serves as board secretary for the Abbott Laboratories spinoff, General Dynamics said Monday.
“Laura is an accomplished business leader and corporate strategist, and we look forward to benefiting from her experience as a member of our board, ” said Phebe Novakovic, General Dynamics chairman and CEO.
Schumacher has held leadership positions in litigation, compliance, licensing, acquisition, drug products research and government affairs during her more than 20-year career with Abbott.
Prior to Abbott, she served as an associate attorney at Chicago-based law firm Schiff, Hardin & Waite.
She received her bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame and her juris doctorate from the University of Wisconsin.
