Jason Denney: Lockheed Increases Cruise Missile Production Under $449M in Contracts

lockheed martinLockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has won two contracts worth $449 million combined to produce two batches of joint air-to-surface standoff missiles for the U.S. Air Force.

The company will make 340 baseline missiles, 100 extended-range variant missiles as well as provide testing, systems engineering, tooling and logistics support to the Air Force for missile batches 11 and 12, Lockheed said Thursday.

“These contracts bring the total number of JASSM cruise missiles on contract to over 2, 100, ” said Jason Denney, program director of long range strike systems for Lockheed’s missiles and fire control business.

JASSMs are built with an infrared sensor and GPS technology and intended to operate autonomously during the day or at night in all weather conditions.

Lockheed also designed the cruise missiles to integrate onto the B-1B, B-2, B-52, F-16 and F-15E aircraft.

The company produces the JASSM at its facility in Troy, Ala. and has assembled more than 1, 400 JASSMs for testing and operation.
