Amit Mital Joins Symantec as Chief Technology Officer; Steve Bennett Comments

Amit Mital, formerly corporate vice president for Microsoft’s (NASDAQ: MSFT) startup business group, has joined Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) as chief technology officer.

Mital will report directly to CEO Steve Bennett with responsibility in Symantec’s technology strategy focusing on research and product development, Symantec said Wednesday.

He will succeed Steve Trilling, who has been appointed Symantec senior lead for operations.

Bennett said Amit will work to help the company execute roadmaps for meeting customer demands.

The 20-year Microsoft veteran was most recently responsible for that company’s strategic product development and identification of fresh opportunities.

Mital patented 43 technologies including machine learning, big data, web tools and cloud services.
