$122M Modification Grows General Dynamics Electric Boat’s Virginia-Class Submarine Contract to $716M

general dynamics logoA General Dynamics subsidiary has won a $121.8 million contract modification from the U.S. Navy to provide the branch with long lead-time materials for three Virginia-class submarines. 

The modification grows the value of the contract General Dynamics Electric Boat won in April 2012 to $716.5 million, the company said Dec. 23.

General Dynamics said the modification covers materials to support the construction of submarines SSN-793, SSN-794 and SSN-795, and includes:

 

  • steam and electrical-plant components
  • a main propulsion unit
  • ship-service turbine generator sets
  • miscellaneous hull, mechanical and electrical-systems components

General Dynamics said a goal of the Virginia-class submarine is to allow the Navy “with the capabilities required to dominate both the open ocean and the littorals.”
