The modification grows the value of the contract General Dynamics Electric Boat won in April 2012 to $716.5 million, the company said Dec. 23.
General Dynamics said the modification covers materials to support the construction of submarines SSN-793, SSN-794 and SSN-795, and includes:
- steam and electrical-plant components
- a main propulsion unit
- ship-service turbine generator sets
- miscellaneous hull, mechanical and electrical-systems components
General Dynamics said a goal of the Virginia-class submarine is to allow the Navy “with the capabilities required to dominate both the open ocean and the littorals.”
