Report: South Korea to Buy Northrop’s Global Hawk for $848M; Raytheon’s Bob Busey Comments

Global HawkSouth Korea wants to purchase four Northrop Grumman-built (NYSE: NOC) unmanned aerial vehicles for nearly $848 million from the U.S., Reuters reported Sunday.

Joyce Lee and Andrea Shalal-Esa write South Korea plans to buy those UAVs through a foreign military sales agreement and sign that deal in 2014.

Lee Young-geol, administrator of South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration, told a parliamentary audit his country intends to acquire the Global Hawks in 2017, according to the report.

Young-geol added that South Korea has yet to decide on the budget and terms of the acquisition, the report says.

The U.S. congress permitted the Global Hawk sale to South Korea in early 2013, Reuters reports.

Bob Busey, who manages Raytheon’s Global Hawk ground segment, said in June that Global Hawk aircraft had then flown logged more than 94, 000 flight hours and participated in around 5, 500 missions
