L-3 to Develop Army Vehicle Transmission Systems; Steve Kantor Comments

L3 logoL-3 Communications‘ (NYSE: LLL) combat propulsion systems division has won a $20 million contract to build new transmission systems for the U.S. Army‘s heavy vehicles.

The company will perform design and development work under the Gemini Transmission program as the Army aims to maintain and upgrade its ground combat vehicle fleets, L-3 said Tuesday.

Steve Kantor, president of L-3’s electronic systems group, said the company will work to update all four transmissions for the Armored Brigade Combat Teams’ vehicles.

According to L-3, the new transmission technology is intended to act as a drop-in substitute for current systems in order to address mobility, lifecycle support and power requirements of Army combat teams.
