Eric Rudder, Harry Shum Selected for New Microsoft EVP Roles

MicrosoftMicrosoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) CEO Steve Ballmer notified employees in an internal email Wednesday that Eric Rudder and Harry Shum will take on new executive vice president roles at the software giant.

Rudder will serve in the newly-created position of executive vice president for advanced strategy and Shum will succeed Rudder as EVP for technology and research, Ballmer wrote in the message.

Both individuals will start their new positions in mid-December and report directly to Ballmer.

Rudder will work to advance cross-company technology programs and Shum will focus on computer science-related research as part of the product release development process.

Ballmer credited Rudder with helping integrate Microsoft Research’s work with the company’s devices and services.

Shum has led the MSR team in China and currently serves as Bing engineering head.
