TASC, Air Force to Research Kinetic Energy Technology

TASC Gold logoTASC has been awarded a $35 million contract to help the U.S. Air Force to research kinetic energy systems under a program intended to help transition Defense Department technologies.

The company will receive $712, 500 in fiscal year 2013 research and development funds at the time of award and those funds are part of the program’s initial $8 million task order, the Defense Department said Wednesday.

Areas of research under the Optical Radiation Bioeffects and Safety program include novel laser bioeffects, laser eye protection, advanced technology demonstration and applied high energy laser bioeffects.

TASC and the Air Force will conduct basic and applied research into optical radiation hazards the branch expects to occur in future combat scenarios with the goal of developing countermeasures.

The company’s contract deliverables include data, hardware and software.
