Harris Wins $140M for Army Networking Radios

Harris w-BorderHarris Corp. (NYSE: HRS) has won a potential $140.7 million contract to produce mid-tier networking vehicular radios for the U.S. Army, Defense News reported Wednesday.

Paul McLeary writes the Army will initially order 232 radios under an $8.4 million delivery order for testing and evaluation and plans to eventually buy 2, 500 low-rate initial production units.

The Army intends for the radio systems to help facilitate battalion- and brigade-level communications for soldiers that are moving on foot or in vehicles, McLeary reports.

Funds from fiscal years 2012, 2013 and 2014 will help pay for the program, according to the report.
