Northrop to Acquire Australia’s Qantas Airways Defense Unit; Wes Bush Comments

northrop Grumman_BLUEA Northrop Grumman Corp. (NYSE: NOC) subsidiary has reached an agreement to buy Qantas Airways’ defense business for an undisclosed amount as Northrop looks to further its international strategy.

Northrop Grumman Australia Pty Ltd.’s acquisition of Qantas Defence Services Pty Ltd. could wrap up in 2014 after meeting several conditions, Northrop Grumman said Wednesday.

Wes Bush, Northrop Grumman chairman, CEO and president, said the QDS buy will help expand the company’s unmanned, C4ISR, cyber and logistics and modernization platform.

“QDS complements our current integrated logistics and modernization efforts, ” he added.

qantas-airways-logoQDS employs more than 300 staff across Australia and delivers life support for the Royal Australian Air Force multi role tanker transport fleet, logistics services for the Australian Government’s VIP aircraft and engine overhaul services for the Orion P-3 and hawk lead-in fighter.

Ian Irving, Northrop Grumman chief executive for Australia, hopes for the acquisition to enhance Northrop Grumman’s revenue and footprint in the country.

QDS provides the Australian government and military customers with integrated logistics, sustainment and modernization services.
