Kristie Cunningham, most recently head of employee engagement for British contractor BAE Systems and its U.S. subsidiary BAE Systems Inc., has been promoted to senior vice president of communications.

She will lead the subsidiary’s external and internal communications activities and be responsible for delivering messages to employees, customers and other stakeholders, BAE said Monday.

Cunningham succeeds John Suttle, who began serving as SVP of international business development in June.

Linda Hudson, president and CEO of BAE Systems Inc., said Cunningham brings 20 years of experience in executing communications strategies to her new position.

She joined BAE in May 2010 after serving as communications director at Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC), where she led marketing communications and media relations, as well as executive and employee communications.

Her career also includes communications positions at AOL, MCI WorldCom, the Personal Communications Industry Association and the Washington Times.
