Exelis Wins Potential $125M Navy RF Defense Systems Contract; Joe Rambala Comments

Exelis logoITT Exelis (NYSE: XLS) has won a potential $125 million contract to build countermeasures for the U.S. Navy to detect radio frequency threats against aircraft.

The AN/ALQ-214 is part of a defensive electronic countermeasures system intended for the F/A-18 C/D Hornet and F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet planes, Exelis said Thursday.

Exelis’ latest version of the jammers is designed to recognize hazards such as missiles and defense radars.

Joe Rambala, an Exelis vice president and general manager, said the new systems are built to provide digital warning systems to pilots during missions.

The U.S. Navy and Australian air force will continue to use the legacy AN/ALQ-214 IDECM systems on their Super Hornets, Exelis says.
