Boeing AF Refueling Tanker Production to Start Next Month

BoeingLogoBoeing (NYSE: BA) will start producing parts of refueling tankers for the U.S. Air Force under a fixed-price contract with the branch, the Puget Sound Business Journal reported May 22.

Steve Wilhelm writes the company will build the KC-46 tanker in phases within the Puget Sound, Wash. region and fabricate the refueling boom with the final fitting at Seattle’s Boeing Field.

Jim Eisenhart, a company business director, told a Northwest Aerospace Defense Symposium audience Wednesday the company intends to lay down the tanker’s wing spar by June 26.

Eisenhart added Boeing plans to provide the Air Force 179 total tankers under the program’s total lifespan and the company has planned for 18 deliveries in 2017.
