Army Unveils Geothermal Energy Awardees for Potential $7B Program

energy armyThe U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has selected five companies to compete for task orders to support geothermal installations under a potential $7 billion contract covering generated and renewable alternative energy.

Winners for the solar, wind and biomass portions of the contract are scheduled to be announced throughout the remander of the year, the Army said.

The contract’s geothermal energy portion contains three base years and seven one-year options.

“To reach the Army’s goal of deploying 1 gigawatt of renewable energy by 2025 will require a different way of doing business with the private sector, said John Lushetsky, EITF’s executive director. 

Awardees include Constellation NewEnergy Inc., ECC Renewables LLC, Enel Green Power North America Inc., LTC Federal LLC and Siemens Government Technologies Inc.

Under the IDIQ, contractors will design, finance, build, operate and maintain energy plants through power purchase agreements.

The contract is intended to help the Army meet congressionally mandated energy goals to produce and consume 25 percent renewable energy by 2025.
