Science Applications International Corp. (NYSE: SAI) has won a position on a potential $184 million contract covering information technology support services for a National Institutes of Health organization.

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute awarded the five-year contract as a multiple-award blanket procurement agreement, SAIC announced Wednesday.

SAIC won three task orders worth $18 million combined to implement new software and technology for the NHLBI to maintain its web sites and databases and update its grant management programs.

“We are pleased to support the NHLBI by helping to modernize and automate its systems, ” said Steve Comber, a senior vice president and group general manager.

Comber said the company is aiming to help the institute carry out its mission to help prevent and treat heart, lung and blood diseases.

SAIC will work with the institute’s IT and applications center, which directs and implements business, research and clinical informatics programs that support the institute’s biomedical research mission.
