Raytheon (NYSE: RTN) has won a $155.6 million contract to produce missiles for defending against anti-ship cruise missiles and adversarial helicopters.

The company will manufacture the Block 2 Rolling Airframe Missiles under a cooperative program between the U.S. and German governments, Raytheon said Monday.

RAMSYS of Germany will jointly produce the missiles with Raytheon for delivery to the German navy.

“It complements the $100 million RAM Block 2 production contracts with the U.S. Navy signed in 2012 and follows our company’s 11 critical Block 2 development test flights, ” said Taylor Lawrence, president of Raytheon’s missile systems business.

Lawrence added government testing is scheduled to start in May.

Naval forces in Egypt, Germany, Greece, Japan, South Korea, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and the U.S. use the RAM missiles for self-defense.

RAM missiles are designed to travel faster than the speed of sound and help naval forces defend against hostile surface craft and airborne threats.

The missiles also contain a dual-mode, passive radio frequency and infrared guidance system intended to help engage several threats at the same time.
